Skilled workers and professionals
This category is suitable for people who are able to become economically established in Canada, have special skills in some professional field, will help Canada to improve employment in some highly specialized area. Eligibility of applicants is assessed according to point system. Main areas which are being assessed by immigration officers are:
- Education (max 25 points)
- English and French Language Ability (max 24 points)
- Professional experience (max 21 points) - you must have at least one year of full-time paid work experience, or the equivalent in part-time work. This experience must:
- be in an occupation listed in the National Occupational Classification (NOC) list and
- be listed in an occupation listed in Skill Type 0 (managerial occupations) or Skill Levels A (professional occupations) or B (technical occupations and skilled trans) on the National Occupational Classification (NOC) list and
- have occurred in the past 10 years.
- English and French Language Ability (max 24 points)
- Age (max 10 points)
- Arranged employment (max 10 points)
- Adaptability (max 10 points)
Total score of the test is 100 and from 2003, applicants who reached the score 67 were suitable for interviewing and further processing of their application.
